AEW Dynamite has some interesting matchups this week
Another week of intense action and plot development on AEW Dynamite results in another instalment with more of the same. Nonetheless, we find ourselves in the same situation as AEW, which has teased and released only two matches and an intriguing women’s program.
The Double or Nothing event is three weekends away. Aside from the Owen Hart Tournament finals and the hints of Anarchy in the Arena, we are left wondering. There are possibilities awaiting confirmation. Nonetheless, AEW’s 2025 comeback is restoring optimism.
AEW Dynamite match card & segments
- Samoa Joe vs Claudio Castagnoli
- The Young Bucks and Ricochet vs Swerve Strickland, Speedball Mike Bailey and Mark Briscoe
- Jamie Hayter’s sit-down interview with Renee Paquette
Samoa Joe vs Claudio Castagnoli
Samoa Joe’s involvement with the Death Riders has sparked interest once again. In contrast, some AEW fans remain disconnected from the ongoing Death Riders storyline and have valid reasons. It’s hard to ignore the excitement around his upcoming match with Claudio Castagnoli.
This is a clash of two battle-tested workhorses who know each other well. Their history dates back to their first meeting in ROH in 2006, with their last one-on-one encounter happening on WWE Raw in 2019.
On May 3’s AEW Collision, it was announced that Samoa Joe will face Claudio Castagnoli on the following edition of Dynamite, just seven days before facing Jon Moxley inside a steel cage for the AEW World Championship.
And that’s just the in-ring story. Ringside chaos, pre-match tension, or post-match fallout could all play a part. With Beach Break coming up, Jon Moxley may be looking to even the score after being choked out by Joe not once, but twice.
The Young Bucks and Ricochet vs Swerve Strickland, Speedball Mike Bailey and Mark Briscoe
Swerve Strickland has already taken a few cheap shots at Matthew and Nicholas Jackson. While those attacks shook things up, the fact that the Young Bucks are still smiling and acting like they run AEW really gets under Strickland’s skin.
Now, it’s Buck hunting season and Strickland is ready. But the Bucks know he’s coming. If Swerve waits too long, he could end up being the one who gets caught off guard.
To make things more complicated, Ricochet is now in their corner. He’s a former rival of Strickland and seems eager to stay close to the powerful EVPs, especially after teaming up so well with them last week.
Thankfully, Strickland has some backup of his own. Mark Briscoe and Speedball Mike Bailey may have lost to the Bucks recently, but they pushed them to their limit. They know how to frustrate the brothers and bring the best out of them.
Strickland is the new factor in this battle. He brings fresh energy, and with the fire he has right now, things are about to get much more intense.
Jamie Hayter’s interview with Renee Paquette
Hayter’s hard-hitting dynamic form was evident in her first encounter with Billie Starkz once her visa difficulties were resolved. Each subsequent performance has reminded followers why they invested in the British powerhouse in the first place. What is still lacking is the depth of her character.
Renee Paquette’s meeting will enable Hayter to connect the connections between herself and Storm. That Storm stole the title from her before the injury. Their previous friendship and time spent together. There’s an opportunity to make this personal with Storm. Then there’s Mercedes Mone, who is impeding her progress in Arizona.
