Jon Moxley makes history; becomes 1st wrestler to win WWE, AEW & NJPW world title

Jon Moxley is one of the best professional wrestlers in the industry, who has a great reign across almost all major promotions (WWE, AEW & NJPW). He is currently signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), however makes his appearance on the allied promotions, such as NJPW, ROH, CMLL and others.

He became widely popular during his time in WWE from 2011 to 2019, where he wrestled under the name Dean Ambrose. He moved to AEW following creative frustrations and achieved monumental success there. Moxley being one of the top stars across brands, he has now made history with his world title win in NJPW.

Jon Moxley makes history

On April 12, 2024 at NJPW’s Windy City Riot, Jon Moxley challenged Tetsuya Naito for the World Heavyweight Championship. Moxley made it clear that it will be his only IWGP World Heavyweight Championship title shot. 

Moxley said, “In all likelihood, I’ll probably only get one shot at the IWGP championship in my entire life. That’s fine. I’m only gonna need one.”

Moxley stood by his words and went on to defeat Tetsuyo Naito to become the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion for the very first time. With this, Moxley became the only person to hold the primary World Championship in WWE, AEW & IWGP.

Dean Ambrose’s WWE Championship reign

Jon Moxley, who wrestled under the name Dean Ambrose is a one-time WWE Champion, which he won by cashing-in his Money in the Bank contract on the same day against Seth Rollins at the Money in the Bank 2016 pay-per-view. Ambrose held the title for 84 days and lost the title to AJ Styles at Backlash 2016.

Jon Moxley’s AEW World Championship reigns

Jon Moxley won his first AEW World Championship at AEW Revolution, by defeating Chris Jericho. He held the title for 277 days and lost it to Kenny Omega at Dynamite: Winter is coming 2020.

Moxley’s second reign came through the Interim AEW World Championship reign, where he was made champion in the absence of CM Punk, however he defended his title against Punk and won. His second reign lasted a total of 71 days (including interim). However he lost to CM Punk at AEW All Out.

Moxley is the first one to win the AEW title for the third time. He won the third AEW World title at Dynamite Grand Slam 2022, by winning the vacated title. He held the title for 59 days and lost it to MJF at Full Gear 2022.
