Miro has been in AEW since 2020 and was a former TNT Champion!

Miro, formerly known as Rusev is a Bulgarian Professional Wrestler, who has been signed to AEW. He is widely known for his time in WWE, as Rusev, who mimicked a Russian wrestler and also was a three-time United States Champion.

In 2020, Rusev requested his WWE release and joined AEW later in the same year. He had a great initial run with the AEW TNT Championship, but was cut off from the TV and was seen quite occasionally. At this stage, backstage reports reveal that the 38-year-old has requested a release from AEW.

Miro requests AEW release

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that Miro (formerly known as Rusev) has requested his release from All Elite Wrestling, although he has a long way to go on his current AEW contract. Sean Ross Sapp reported, “Miro, formerly Rusev, has asked for his release from All Elite Wrestling.” In 2022, he signed a four year contract with AEW, which makes him the AEW bound until spring 2024.

It is unknown what is the reason behind his release request, but it is believed that Miro & AEW couldn’t be able to stand on the same page. It was rumored that the Bulgarian was initially planned to be a part of the AEW All In Casino Battle Royal, however the plan went scrapped. He requested a storyline angle with Moxley, but both didn’t come under the same page in creatives and it declined. At this stage, it seems like this could be one of the reasons behind his release request.

Ever since Miro made his debut on AEW in November 2021, he has wrestled only 11 matches. He has been sidelined for a number of months and had only a few appearances on TV. Last time when he wrestled was way back in December 2023 at the AEW World’s End pay-per-view, where he defeated Andrade with the help of his ex-wife CJ Perry.

In April 2024, it was revealed that he had been struggling with shoulder and elbow injuries and was rehabbing for his in-ring return. But his health put him behind schedule, and also officially splitted with Perry, calling for a divorce and leaving AEW. At this stage, Miro requesting a release, also makes that both Perry & Miro’s last appearances are at AEW World’s End 2024.

It is unknown if the Bulgarian will return to WWE as Rusev or what he will be doing after his release, as nothing is confirmed yet.
