Tony Khan pictured holding meeting with Shane McMahon: AEW
The landscape of AEW could possibly see a major addition made with Shane McMahon’s arrival.
All Elite Wrestling has established itself as a direct competitor to the global juggernaut of wrestling, WWE, since its inception back in 2019. The leader of the company, Tony Khan, has brought about a revolution and a new land of opportunity for wrestlers to gain immense fame and success in the wrestling world.
In the last five years, AEW has also lured away multiple talents from WWE, such as Adam Copeland, Bryan Danielson, Mercedes Mone and Chris Jericho, building one of the most compelling rosters of all time. In light of recent events, it seems Tony Khan is now planning to bring on another popular WWE figure.
Tony Khan’s meeting with Shane McMahon
It was reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select that Tony Khan had a private meeting with Shane McMahon this past Monday at an office space in a private airport in Arlington. Further reporting stated that Khan and McMahon had met to discuss possible future collaborations in the wrestling world, with this appearing to be there first-ever meeting.
Sapp also noted that Tony Khan has been very receptive to the idea of involving Shane McMahon in AEW for several weeks. However, those close to AEW were unaware of the specifics discussed in their meeting. Moreover, WrestleVotes also reported that a long-time WWE employee who had a close connection with Shane McMahon was not surprised by this meeting, calling McMahon very smart in his business decisions.
Tony Khan has previously spoken highly of Shane McMahon and even expressed his desire to work with him. On the other hand, Shane was last seen wrestling at WrestleMania 39, where he tore his quads in an impromptu match with The Miz. While McMahon is still mentioned on WWE’s website, it was reported that he was under no contractual obligation.
With major rumors swirling and now that Shane McMahon and Tony Khan have finally met potentially to discuss business, it remains to be seen whether it would materialise into a partnership. Should it do, it would be a highly shocking move for Shane McMahon to move to AEW considering his long-time ties with WWE.
