East Bengal FC registered their first win of the AFC Women’s Champions League group stage on Monday. The Red and Gold ran riot against Bam Khatoon of Iran with a 3-1 victory. It was a collective effort from the defending Indian Women’s League Champions, with multiple goal scorers showing up on the occasion.

East Bengal are grouped with the defending AFC Women’s Champions League winners Wuhan Jianga, who are also hosting the group, Nasaf FC, and Bam Khatoon. They will face the hosts Wuhan Jiangda next on Thursday.

With this win on the first matchday, East Bengal tops Group B. Their convincing victory against Bam Khatoon has earned them an edge over other teams in the group. In the other Group B match, a close contest between Wuhan Jiangda and Nasaf FC ended in a draw.

East Bengal have three points going into the second matchday. Following the Red and Gold Brigade are Wuhan Jiangda and Nasaf FC with a point each. Bam Khatoon are at the bottom of the table with no points after their defeat on the first matchday.

Wuhan Jiangda’s challenge awaits

East Bengal cannot take their win against Bam Khatoon for granted as they face the defending AWCL champions on Thursday.

Wuhan Jiangda failed to start their campaign on a high note, but they will come back stronger to claim that top spot. The Red and Gold Brigade will have to stay on top of their game to manage all three points against the Chinese club.

Nasaf FC and Bam Khatoon will also clash as they aim to open their account on the points table. Bam Khatoon needs to achieve positive results.

The Iranian club conceded three goals against the Red and Gold Brigade, which has impacted their goal difference. Anything less than three points can knock them out of the competition.
