Women's World Boxing Championships 2023 Final: Where and how to watch?

Four Indian Boxers progress through to the finals

Four Indian boxers progressed through to the finals of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2023. It beats the previous record of three Indians in the finals, set in the previous edition of the World Boxing Championships. Tokyo Olympics medalist Lovlina Bogohain, star pugilist Nikhat Zareen, former World Championships medalist Saweety Boora and the reigning Asian Champion Nitu Ganghas will represent India.

Last year’s gold medallist Nikhat Zareen after dropping her weight category to 50kg made it through the final after defeating last year's silver medallist and Rio Olympics bronze medallist Valencia in the semifinals. The 50 kg weight category is part of the Olympic roster and Nikhat has already won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in the current weight category. The Telangana Athlete will face two-time Asian champion Nguyen Thi Tam in the final on March 26. 

IBA Women's World Boxing Championships 2023

Nitu Ganghas is in scintillating form and won the first three bouts through RSC. She defeated the reigning Asian champion and last year’s World Championships silver medallist Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan (5-2) on points after the bout was reviewed in the 48kg semifinals. Nitu is set to take on the 2022 Asian Championships bronze medallist Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg of Mongolia in the final on 26th March.

Two-time World Championships bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain defeated Chinese boxer Li Qian of China (4-1) and booked her maiden spot in the final of the 75kg category. She won the bronze medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and she wanted to go past the semifinals to prove herself this time. Lovlina will face Caitlin Parker of Australia who had a comfortable outing in the semifinals defeating Khalzova (5-0) in the semifinals.

30-year-old Saweety Boora went past Australia’s Sue-Emma Greentree (4-3) to progress to her final. This will be Saweety’s second final appearance at the World Championships having previously made it in 2014. She will face Wang Lina of China in the final.

The final will be held across two days, 25 and 26 March.
