Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul: Five things to watch out for

The exhibition match will now take place on June 6, after it was postponed in February.

Undefeated boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather will return to the ring in an exhibition match versus Logan Paul at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

The much-hyped clash was originally to take place in February, but the new date has finally been confirmed. Here are five things to expect from this fight:

5. Ridiculous mismatch

While, Floyd Mayweather is widely considered as one of the greatest boxers of all time, his opponent Logan Paul is a YouTuber and a famous internet personality.

Mayweather has an astonishing boxing record of 50-0, with 27 of those wins being knockouts. He last fought professionally in August 2017 when he stopped UFC star Conor McGregor in the 10th round. Mayweather also took on Japanese kickboxer and mixed martial artist Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition match in December 2018, recording a first-round knockout. On the other hand, Paul has only one fight on his record, a split-decision loss to fellow YouTuber KSI in November 2019.

Facing Mayweather would be a mammoth task, and given his pedigree it is fair to say that this is an absolute mismatch.

4. Very little competitive edge

The fact that this is just an exhibition match shouldn't be forgotten. Hence, there could be very little competitive edge involved as compared to other bouts.

Both boxers might agree to the match running for at least a certain number of rounds. However, it is evident that Mayweather wouldn't want to risk his reputation at any cost while Paul will certainly do his best to leave a mark on the contest.

3. Will there be enough public interest?

The Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul fight will take place just a day after an 'actual' boxing match. Teofimo Lopez will be defending his lightweight titles in a highly-anticipated match against Australia's George Kambosos Jr. on June 5. Lopez is one of the hottest names in the sport right now and is coming into this match after a win against Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Tickets for the Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul match will be up for grabs from next week with viewers also able to purchase a Pay-Per-View (PPV) subscription for the match on Fanmio. Given the event is taking place in Florida, a state that has opened up to live audiences, one can expect a full capacity attendance at Hard Rock Stadium on the night of the event. UFC 261 recently took place in Jacksonville, Florida, with a capacity crowd of over 15,000 people. However, it remains to be seen if this match will generate a similar kind of interest amongst the general public.

2. Age to be a crucial factor?

While Mayweather is currently 44 years old, his opponent Paul is 26 . That makes it an 18-year difference between the two of them. Additionally, Mayweather stands at 5ft 8in, while Paul is 6ft 2in tall.

However, that should hardly matter. Despite Paul's age and reach advantage, Mayweather has been around the boxing circuit for ages. The 44-year-old had even managed to clinch an Olympic bronze medal in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Experience is definitely a crucial factor and one can expect Mayweather to cruise through.

1. Are they serious or it's just about cash?

Logan Paul had first announced his intention of fighting Floyd Mayweather in November 2020. Mayweather responsed in typical fashion. His tweet read: "These YouTube girls better find some Barbie dolls to play with cause I’m not the one for the kid games. 3 years ago a fighter from the UFC said my name and I had to put a muzzle on that bitch. Logan Paul can get the same treatment before I go conquer Japan again."

Logan Paul started an argument with Conor McGregor on Twitter, when the former UFC star tweeted that "UFC high-level fighting > Blogger jackass boxing". However, after the new dates were announced on Wednesday, Paul tweeted, "full transparency my mom is terrified". It is tough to say whether both Mayweather and Paul are entirely serious about the clash. But, it will ultimately be a win-win situation for both of them.

Mayweather, nicknamed "Money", has fought in the two-biggest boxing PPV in history, making it a possibility that this could all be about pocketing millions of dollars.
