AIBA World Youth Championships: Know your eight finalists

These boxers will fight for the Gold medals.

Eight Indian pugilists stormed into the finals of the ongoing AIBA Youth World Championships after a dominating display on Tuesday. India confirmed an unprecedented 11 medals in the competition in Kielce, Poland.

With seven Indian women boxers qualified for the final, India tops the table in the women's competition. In the overall championship, India and Russia are joint top with eight medals. All the seven Indian women boxers put up a flawless performance as they progressed into the finals. They will be aiming to add the yellow metal to their name.

Seven Indian women boxers will play in the final on Thursday and one male boxer will compete for the Gold medal on Friday. Let's take a look at all the Indian boxers who will be fighting for glory:

Gitika (48kg)

Gitika hails from Haryana and fights in the 48Kg light fly category. She is swiftly defeating her hurdles on her way to success. With the goal to win Gold, Gitika has trained herself hard and have dominated over her brawny opponents.

She displays brilliant techniques and precision while challenging her opponent. It is one of her most powerful qualities.

Baby Chanu (51kg)

Belonging to the scenic state of Manipur, Baby Chanu is ready to get ferocious for her upcoming challenge at the finals of the AIBA Youth World Championships. She hails from a boxing family. Chanu was determined to take ahead the family legacy and started training herself from the age of 12.  Her passion for boxing and the attitude to never quit ensures that she will soon make a giant leap to success.

 Poonam (57kg)

Poonam is India’s featherweight (57Kg) youth player who only aims to win the bout. She is a fast-paced learner; with the engulfing desire to make a mark in the sport of boxing. Poonam trusts her coaches and attributes her success to them. The Indian boxer loves challenges and pushes herself till she tastes the joy of success. 

Vinka (60kg)

Vinka, a promising Indian Boxer, is among the few who soon made their names to the charts. Coming from the village in Panipat, the young boxer struggled her way to the finals of the AIBA Youth World Championships. Vinka constantly broke the stereotypical gender specific perspectives to reach the boxing ring.

She has won several Gold medals consecutively for two years (2017-2018) and has been showcasing her potential in several national and international boxing championships. In 2019, the Indian boxer had won Gold at the ASBC Youth Asian Championship in Mongolia.

Arundhati Choudhary (69kg)

Arundhati is a strong-willed person who is constantly thriving and conquering the combat sport of boxing. A three-time gold medal winner at the Khelo India Games, she successfully climbed the stairs to success in her short career. Arundhati's skills and extensive training has led her to bag gold in 60kg, 66kg and 69kg at different national and international tournaments.

Her successful performances got noticed by the boxing fans globally which got her the title of Best Asian Junior Women Boxer in 2018.

T Sanamacha Chanu (75kg)

T Sanamacha Chanu is a trainee of MC Mary Kom Academy in Imphal. She idealizes the legend and aspires to carry the name of India in boxing to a new peak. Chanu has been a star of the ASBC Youth Women Championship as she was among the five women boxers who won the gold medal last year.

She has been constantly training herself and pushing the limits to continue her success at the AIBA Youth World Championships.

Alfiya Khan Pathan (+81kg)

The young boxing sensation is fighting her way with her full force. Known for being one of the most fierce and strong young boxers, she doesn’t hold back to punch down her opponents. Alfiya is a pro and fast enough to bring them down in just 30 seconds. Born in an orthodox family, it was never easy for her to even take the initial steps.

However, Alfiya's persistence towards the sport won against her reluctant family. Her career took off when she won a Gold medal in the Asian Junior Girls Championship in 2019. Now, she plans to only move forward.

Sachin (56kg)

Hailing from a humble farmer’s family, Sachin’s journey to the world of Boxing was through his Uncle’s support. His desire to be a boxer and play for India turned into a reality when he was introduced to a boxing coach. He trained at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and won a Bronze medal in AIBA Junior Boxing World Championship, along with other championships at the national and international level.
