Shubman Gill breaks Virat Kohli's Yo-Yo test score ahead of Asia Cup 2023 - Reports

Indian team are getting ready for the 16th edition of the Asia Cup, which will be taking place in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The tournament will start from August 30, while Indian team will be playing their first game against arch rival Pakistan on September 2 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Indian team are currently in Alur, Karnataka, undergoing a practice camp.
All Indian players are undergoing the required fitness tests. The test includes yo-yo test, which will help the Indian management to determine the fitness levels of the players taking part in the coming tournament. Almost all the players have undergone the yo-yo test. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli cracked the test with an impressive score of 17.2. Notably, the cut-off score for the test is 16.5.

Yo-Yo test is a physical test to measure the fitness status of the players, and a score is given on the basis of their performances. A couple of days ago, Virat Kohli revealed his test score of 17.2 by sharing it on his Instagram story. There is no doubt about the fitness of the former Indian captain. In fact, he is one of the fittest athletes in the world, even at the age of 32.
But according to the report from PTI, Shubman Gill outscored Virat Kohli in the yo-yo test conducted in Alur. A report added that the star opener racked up an excellent score of 18.7 in the latest test. A BCCI source told PTI, “The Yo-Yo test being an aerobic endurance fitness test, the results could vary depending on when you last played and how much workload you have gone through in the past week. Gill, as of now, has the highest score of 18.7.”
According to the report, five players including Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, Prasidh Krishna, and Tilak Varma are yet to undergo the test. The upcoming tournament will be very important in order to prepare for the World Cup 2023. India have yet to win an ICC title in the last decade, and the BCCI wants every player to be fit for the mega event in India.
