Both Indian teams struggled to win their ties.

Day 2 of the Archery World Cup Stage IV ended on a bright note with two Indian teams – men and women compound teams have reached the final. After the qualification stage on the opening day, the Indian men’s team were seeded fourth scoring 2127 points whereas the women’s team secured the top seed by scoring 2113 points.

The women’s team consisted of recent World Champion Aditi Gopichand Swami, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Parneet Kaur. The path to the final was relatively easy for the team as they received a bye in the opening round and in the following round defeated Estonia (233-230). In the semi-finals, the Indian trio got the better of Great Britain (234-233) in a close encounter.

Great Britain took a one-point lead (60-59) in the opening series, but the Indians struck back to gain the lead and in the end progressed to the final. Korea post losing their semi-final to Mexico, won the bronze medal by defeating Great Britain who once again succumbed to a one-point loss.

On the other hand, the men unlike the women did not receive a bye and had to start from scratch. The trio of Ojas Pravin Deotale, Prathamesh Jawkar, and Abhishek Verma combined to beat Italy in the opening round (239-235) and in the quarter-finals defeated Mexico (237-235). However, the match in the semi-final was a tough one facing Korea. The match ended in a tie (235-235) and the shoot-off in the subsequent event too ended in a tie. India went through to the final by hitting an X (closer to the ring).

The final for both the men’s and women’s teams will be held on 19th August. In the individual section, Jyothi Surekha Vennam finished on the top with 710 points followed by Gopichand Swami at 5th (708 points) and in the men’s Ojas Pravin Deotale was the lone Indian compound archer to feature in the top 10 finishing 2nd with 713 points.
