Parneet Kaur overcame Great Britain's Hallie Boulton in the bronze medal match.
It was a successful day for young Indian archers as they won three gold medals in the compound cadet men's, women's and mixed team events in the World Archery Youth Championships on Saturday. The 16th edition of the competition is taking place in Wroclaw, Poland with events taking place in two different categories.
Junior events signify the U-20 category while the Cadet events represent the U-17 category.
The cadet women's team defeated Turkey 228-216 in the final to win a gold medal. The Indian team comprised Parneet Kaur, Priya Gurjar and Ridhi Varshini. They brought out a dominant performance to throw opponents Turkey off their mark at the World Archery Youth Championships.
The cadet men's team replicated the success by getting the better of the USA in the final. India's cadet men's team of Kushal Dalal, Sahil Chaudhary and Nitin Apar upset top seed the USA, beating the Americans 233-231 in a thrilling final.
It was a battle between the Indians and the Americans in the cadet mixed team final as well. Priya Gurjar and Kushal Dalal teamed up for India against the American duo of Brielle Ochnich and Sawyer Sullivan. It was a closely fought contest, but ultimately India emerged victorious by a margin of 155-152.
Mixed day for Indians in individual events
Despite the successes in the team events, India had a mixed day in individual events at the World Archery Youth Championships. Priya Gurjar lost out to Mexico's Selene Rodriguez in the cadet women's individual final. The Indian archer suffered a narrow 139-136 defeat. On the other hand, Parneet Kaur overcame Great Britain's Hallie Boulton in the bronze medal match. Kaur was on the right side of a 140-135 scoreline.
It was heartbreak for Sakshi Chaudhary as she lost a nail-biting encounter in the junior women’s gold medal match. The Indian girl lost the match 141-140 against Croatia’s Amanda Mlinaric in the final. Elsewhere, another Indian Rishabh Yadav came out on top in a similar match. In the junior men’s bronze medal match, the young Indian emerged victorious 146-145 against Sebastian Garcia of Mexico.
