The recurve archers will aim to increase India's medal tally.
Indian archers will be competing for five gold medals across the team and individual events. They will be in action in the recurve categories (cadet and junior) at the Archery World Youth Championships in Wroclaw, Poland on Sunday.
The cadet (U-18) men’s and mixed teams entered the finals after terrific performances in the recurve events. In the junior category as well, the men's and mixed teams will play in the final. Indians have been particularly good in the team events so far. The recurve archers will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of their compound counterparts.
Young Indian archers won three gold medals in the compound cadet men’s, women’s and mixed team events yesterday. The cadet women’s team defeated Turkey 228-216 in the final to win a gold medal. The Indian team comprised Parneet Kaur, Priya Gurjar and Ridhi Varshini. The cadet men’s team replicated the success by getting the better of the USA in the final.
India’s cadet men’s team of Kushal Dalal, Sahil Chaudhary and Nitin Apar upset top seed the USA, beating the Americans 233-231 in a thrilling final.
It was a battle between the Indians and the Americans in the cadet mixed team final as well. Priya Gurjar and Kushal Dalal teamed up for India against the American duo of Brielle Ochnich and Sawyer Sullivan. It was a closely fought contest, but ultimately India emerged victorious by a margin of 155-152.
All eyes on Komalika Bari
Indian recurve archers will also be in action in the individual events as well. Emerging Indian archer Komalika Bari will be the only Indian participating in an individual event final on Sunday. She will be up against Spaniard Elia Canales. The 19-year-old is one of the country's most talented archers. She has already established herself in the senior team. In fact, at the Archery World Cup in Paris earlier this year, Bari teamed up with Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhakat to win a gold medal.
Komalika Bari is on the verge of creating history on Sunday. She is looking to become only the second Indian after Deepika Kumari to win the world championship gold in both recurve cadet and junior categories.
Elsewhere, Manoj Manjiri Alone will participate in the recurve cadet women bronze medal match. In addition, the cadet men's, women's and junior women's teams are all in with a shout for a podium finish.
