India return with 11 medals from World Armwrestling Championship 2023

The Indian arm wrestlers won three gold medals.

In a remarkable display, the Indian contingent which went to compete in the 44th World Armwrestling Championship 2023 and 25th PARA Armwrestling Championship, which was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, won a total of 11 Medals (3 Gold, 6 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals). The Championship was held from August 24 till September 3. Indian Arm wrestlers dominate at World Armwrestling Championship 2023.

The 43-member strong (39 athletes and 4 officials) Indian squad was competing under the banner of People’s Armwrestling Federation of India led by President Ms. Preeti Jhangiani, General Secretary and Head coach Laxman Singh Bhandari and Team Manager Junestar Kharbuli. 

Abhas Rana who competes in the sub-junior category won the Gold Medal in Left & Right Hand. Fessy George, Grand Master, secured her Gold in Right and Silver in Left hand category, while Latha G Nair Grand Master (80kgs) won two Silver in Left & Right, Thresiamma MM Grand Master clinched two Silver Medals in Left & Right.

In the PARA Armwrestling Championship 2023, Harsh Khodiar won Silver Medal, while Shrimant Jha and Harish Verma won Bronze Medal. 

Sharing her thoughts on the competition, People’s Armwrestling Federation President Ms. Preeti Jhangiani said, “It was a great privilege for me as the President of The People’s Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI) to take this strong and competitive Indian contingent for the World Armwrestling championships and World Para Armwrestling Championship. Our athletes performed exceptionally well, and I would like to congratulate them for bringing laurels to the country.”

Laxman Singh Bhandari, General Secretary and the Head Coach of the Indian contingent said, “I would like to congratulate all the players as they showcased tremendous display of sportsmanship and competitiveness. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the officials and the management associated for a successful outing in Kazakhstan.” 

People’s Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI) is the sole Indian organisation with affiliation to the Asian Armwrestling Federation (AAF) and World Armwrestling Federation (WAF).
