India secure hosting rights for Asian Armwrestling Championship in 2025

India bagged 11 medals in the previous edition of the tournament.

The People’s Armwrestling Federation of India (PAFI) on Thursday announced that India has been given the right to host the Asian Armwrestling Championship in 2025. The announcement was made during the Asian Congress held at the World Armwrestling Championship, where the proposal put forth by the People’s Armwrestling Federation led by President Ms. Preeti Jhangiani was unanimously approved.

The decision marks an important milestone in India’s sporting history and reflects India’s growing prominence in the world of armwrestling. The event will bring together athletes from across Asia, showcasing their talent, determination, and sportsmanship on a global stage. People’s Armwrestling Federation of India is currently considering various cities in India to hold the Asian Armwrestling Championship and will very soon announce the same. 

Ms. Preeti Jhangiani, President of the People’s Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI), voiced her pride and honor about India hosting the Asian Armwrestling Championship in 2025. She said, “We are honored and excited to host the Asian Armwrestling Championships in 2025. This tournament will provide a platform for top athletes to compete and promote armwrestling as a sport in India.

"Through this tournament, everyone will get an opportunity to showcase their skills and what they are capable of on an international platform. It will also motivate the athletes from across countries to work hard if they want to bring laurels for their country.” 

At the recently concluded 44th World Armwrestling Championship 2023 and the 25th PARA Armwrestling Championship, the Indian delegation that participated showed great aptitude and decisiveness. Held in Almaty, Kazakhstan from August 24-September 3, the Indian contingent bagged 11 medals - three gold, six silver, and two bronze. 

The Indian squad comprised 39 athletes and four officials for the Asian Armwrestling Championship, representing the People’s Armwrestling Federation of India. They were led by PAFI President Ms. Preeti Jhangiani, General Secretary and Head Coach Laxman Singh Bhandari, and Team Manager Junestar Kharbuli.
