The league plays host to some of world football's most passionate rivalries and now also boasts one of the best players of this generation.

The Serie A has long been the epitome of the Italian football philosophy and has been a platform that has showcased some of the World’s best players, something that it continues to do to this day. While the league may not get as much attention as the Spanish or the English leagues, it still showcases some of the best football in the world.

As the new season of the historic competition is right at our doorstep, we take a look at the top 10 fixtures that fans can look forward to in the upcoming campaign.

10. Genoa Vs Sampdoria - 25th November 2018

While this might not be the highest profile of fixtures from an outsider’s point of view, the “Derby of the Lantern” is always a hotly contested affair that splits the Stadio Luigi Ferraris twice a season, as, just like the two Milan clubs, Genoa and Sampdoria also share the same home ground.

9. Juventus Vs Torino - 16th December 2018

Juventus have run riot in the Italian top division in recent years and look to have strengthened even further this year with the addition of Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo to their ranks. However, Torino have proven that they will not take anything lying down, making the “Mole derby” between these two city rivals a must watch for fans.

8. Roma Vs Lazio -29th September 2018

One of the fiercest rivalries in world football is the one shared by the two clubs situated in the Italian capital, Roma and Lazio. Both sides have strengthened over the summer and will look to get one over the other in the Derby of the Capital, making it a very interesting prospect.

7. Chievo Vs Juventus - 18th August 2018

The eyes of the footballing world will turn to the Marcantonio Bentagodi Stadium on 18th August, when Juventus' record signing, Cristiano Ronaldo pulls on the #7 shirt for his first official game in Juventus colours. The Portuguese talisman joined the Old Lady earlier in the summer from European champions Real Madrid and will look to make his mark in Serie A.

6. Juventus Vs AC Milan - 12th November 2018

Juventus and AC Milan are the two most decorated clubs in Italy with several flair-filled teams to have been pitted against each other in the past. The fixture has lost some of its sheen due to Milan’s problems on and off the pitch in recent years. However, it is still capable of producing the timeless moments that we have come to expect from the two giants.

5. Inter Milan Vs Roma -3rd December 2018

Inter Milan have pulled off what seems to be a modern transfer coup by signing the midfield destroyer, Radja Niangolan from Roma over the summer. The Belgian will face his former side when the two teams meet and will be sure to have a point to prove. The game will feature two sides who are battling to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title.

4. Napoli Vs Roma -29th October 2018

Napoli are in a state of flux following the loss of their manager Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea. The new head coach Carlo Ancelotti has a job on his hands to make sure that the side from Naples follow up on their highly exciting campaign in the previous season. The game that is dubbed “The Derby of the Sun.” will see two of Italy’s top sides battling it out against each other.

3. Inter Milan Vs Juventus - 8th December 2018

The “Derby of Italy” splits the country into two, twice a year and is played between two of Europe’s oldest and most decorated clubs. Juventus have run away with the Serie A title in recent years, but Inter have built a team that can take the game to the Old Lady in the coming season.

2. AC Milan Vs Inter Milan -22nd October 2018

The Milan Derby is not only one of Italy’s biggest games, but also one of the games with the highest following all over Europe. This fixture has seen legends of the game pit their skills against each other in battles of blood, sweat, tears and beautiful football. While it may not hold the significance it once did, all eyes will turn to the San Siro when these two footballing giants face each other.

1. Napoli Vs Juventus - 1st October 2018

Napoli were the surprise package in Serie A last year under their former manager Sarri, pushing the eventual champions, Juventus right to the edge, a feat that has rarely been achieved in recent seasons. The game will pit the two best teams in Italy against each other and will have fans licking their lips over the prospect of an open and fierce clash.
