Asian Games 2023 Day 7, September 30, Updated Results: Tennis & Squash team clinch historic medals
India won 38 medals till date in the continental event.
The seventh day of the Asian Games 2023 for India was filled with remarkable achievements, thrilling finals, and historic moments. The Indian contingent has accumulated a total of 38 medals, comprising 10 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals. The day commenced with Sarabjot Singh and Divya TS winning a silver medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, contributing to India's exceptional performance in shooting.
In a memorable men's squash team final against Pakistan, Abhay Singh staged a remarkable comeback from conceding two match points to secure the gold medal. Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale clinched the mixed doubles tennis gold, marking India's third-ever victory in this event at the Asian Games.
In athletics, Karthik Kumar secured a silver medal, while Gulveer Singh settled for bronze in the men's 10,000m race. Long jumpers Murali Sreeshankar and Jeswin Aldrin, along with hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, advanced to the finals. The Indian men's hockey team delivered a dominant performance against Pakistan, with Harmanpreet Singh scoring four goals in a resounding 10-2 victory, keeping India at the top of the points table.
Led by Kidambi Srikanth, the Indian men's badminton team triumphed over the Republic of Korea, setting up their first-ever gold medal match. Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee made history by becoming the first Indian women's doubles table tennis pair to secure a medal at the Asian Games. Lovlina Borgohain started her Hangzhou campaign with a victory in the quarter-finals, ensuring her a medal in this edition, making her the fourth Indian boxer to achieve this feat.
However, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu faced an injury and missed out on her first medal at the continental meet. In golf, Aditi Ashok surged to the top of the women's leaderboard with one round remaining. Additionally, Niraj Verma and the C1 500m, C2 500m, and K2 500m teams in canoeing advanced to the gold medal event in Hangzhou.
