Asian Games 2023: Who are the medal contenders for India on Day 6, September 29?

The Indian contingent will look to add more medals on day 6 of the continental event.
Five days into the Asian Games 2023 with six gold, eight silver, and 11 bronze India stands in fifth place in the medals tally. It was shooters who continued their golden run as the Men's team clinched gold in the 10m Pistol event. Anshu Agarwalla finished with a bronze in the Equestrian Dressage individual finals.
The event also witnessed an unfortunate incident as the leader at the end of the first day, Hriday Vipul was eliminated mid-through the finals after blood was spotted on his horse Chemxpro Emerald’s leg. But the story of the day has been Naorem Roshibina Devi and her silver-winning performance in the women's 60kg Sanda wushu finals.
Her medal has certainly brought some smiles to her home state of Manipur. An action-packed Day 6 awaits Indian athletes at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China, on Friday.

India have confirmed their first medal in Tennis from the Hangzhou Asian Games after a scintillating performance from Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan in the Men's Doubles Finals. It was a tough fight against South Korea in the semi-finals and the fans would be hoping for one such game in the finals against the Chinese Taipei pair of Jason Jung and Yu-hsiou Hsu.
India could confirm another medal if Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale put up another dominating performance in the semifinals of the Mixed Doubles event.
Shooting

India shooters will have another chance to make this a memorable campaign. In the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Position event the trio of Akhil Sheoran, Aishwary Tomar, and Swapnil Kusale will battle it out for medals in both individual and team events. Aishwary Tomar has already won a gold and a bronze in the 10m Air Rifle event in the Asian Games 2023 and the 22-year-old won't complain if he wants to add more to his kitty.
The expectations will be no less from Esha Singh who is no new to the podium in the Hangzhou Games with a gold and a silver. She along with Palak and Divya Subbaraju would step into the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre with an aim to hit targets for the day and achieve their personal goal of getting glory for the nation.
Boxing
Nikhat Zareen - Women's 50kg quarterfinal bout
Nikhat Zareen the World Champion in the women's light flyweight category could ensure her first Asian Games medal with a win over Jordan’s Nassar Hanan in the quarterfinals. The 27-year-old is the favorite to win the gold and India can hope she can fulfill the expectations of the nation like she did in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Badminton
Men's and Women's Team - Quarterfinals
Both the Men and Women's Badminton teams will be in action in the quarterfinals and a win assure a medal as both the losing semifinalists will be awarded bronze in the quadrennial event. India will be aiming for much more than settling for bronze as both teams boast stars of World Badminton like PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy.
Athletics

India have fielded a strong athletics team in the 19th edition of the Asian Games and India have got a lion's share of medals from athletics. Indians will begin their campaign in the 20km race walk with Sandeep Kumar and Vikash Singh in the men's category. The Commonwealth Silver-medallist Priyanka Goswami in the women's category could be a dark horse to win the gold in the event.
India will hope that women continue to bring laurels like they have been doing in these quadrennial events in the last decade. The two Indians competing in the women's hammer throw final on Friday are Rachna Kumari and Tanya Chaudhary, though Manpreet Kaur and Kiran Baliyan do have a chance to win medals if they give it their all.
