Asian Games 2023: Who are the medal contenders for India on Day 7, September 30?

The Indian contingent will look to add more medals on day 7 of the continental event.

India continued their impressive run in the Asian Games 2023 as Team India finished off the day in fourth position in the points table. It was the shooters who brought initial glory on Friday as Esha Singh-led Indian women won silver in the 10m Air Pistol event. The 18-year-old created history by becoming the first Indian to win four medals in a single edition of the continental event.

The 50m Air Rifle 3Position event turned out to be India's event as the Men's team clinched the gold with a world record score. Aishwary Tomar repeated Esha's feat to win four medals in the Hangzhou Games.

India added three more medals with Saketh and Ramanathan settling for a silver in the Tennis Men's Doubles. The women's squash squad had a disappointing end to their campaign as they ended up with silver. Kiran Baliyan became the first Indian to win a medal in the shot put event in 72 years.

India awaits a sweet Saturday as many medal favourites are in action.

Weightlifting

Mirabhai Chanu - 49kg

India's star Weightlifter Mirabhai Chanu will be in action, and it is certain she will win a medal unless something unwanted happens. The Manipur sensation won a historic silver in the Tokyo Olympics and upgraded to a gold in the Commonwealth Games. The fans will be hoping to see her on the top of the podium on Saturday.

Tennis

Rohan Bopanna Rutuja Bhosale - Mixed Doubles Finals

The Asian Games 2023 tennis mixed doubles gold medal match will take place on Saturday in Hangzhou, People's Republic of China, between the Indian team of Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale and the Chinese Taipei team of Tsung-hao Huang and En-shuo Liang. This will be Rohan Bopanna's second Asian Games tennis final. At Jakarta 2018, the seasoned Indian tennis player won the men's doubles gold medal. Rohan Bopanna and Yuki Bhambri's men's doubles campaign at Hangzhou 2023 came to an end in the round of 16.

Meanwhile, it will be Rutuja Bhosale's first and last appearance at the continental meet.

Shooting

Sarabjot Singh and Divya TS - 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team

Having already achieved the best Asian Games tally in shooting, India will look to add more to their kitty. It will be a mixed team of Sarabjot Singh and Divya competing in the 10m Air Pistol event. Both have already won medals in their respective gender team category of the same event. The duo will be gunning to add more.

Athletics

Mohammad Anas/Muhammad Ajmal - Men's 400m Aishwarya Mishra/Himanshi Malik - Women's 400m

India will be hoping to start their medal rush in the track and field events with Mohammad Anas from the 400m. He competed in the 400-meter individual race and the 400-meter relay at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In addition, Anas now owns the Indian athlete record for the fastest 400-meter time at 45.24 seconds. At the 2019 Czech Athletics Championships, he set this record.

Boxing

Lovlina Borgohain - Women's 75kg

Boxing has been India's strong forte in these quadrennial events and the girl from Assam is one of the pioneers in it. Lovlina became the third Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal after taking home the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She desired gold even if this was a significant victory. She won bronze at the two previous world championships, but she took home nothing at the Commonwealth Games. The struggle to win the gold and end the "bronze jinx" was more intense than ever.
