Asian Games 2023: India’s medal tally after Day 5, 28th September

Three medals were presented to Indian athletes on 28th September.
The fifth day of the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023, i.e., September 27, Thursday, was yet another busy day for India's sports persons as they demonstrated their prowess in a wide range of sports including Shooting, Table Tennis, Swimming, Gymnastics, Squash, Boxing, Tennis, Hockey, and Equestrian. The day marked the debut of Badminton and Golf in the 19th edition of the Asian Games, as top athletes like PV Sindhu and Aditi Ashok were in action.
In contrast to yesterday's medal rush, the Indian team had a more modest day, adding three medals to their collection from Wushu, Shooting, and Equestrian disciplines. This brings India's total medal count to 25, reflecting their strong performance at the Games so far.

India clinched three medals on Day 5 of the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, with Roshibina Devi winning silver, the Indian men’s 10m air pistol team bagging the bronze, and Anush Agarwalla sealing the deal with a historic bronze medal in Equestrian - individual dressage event.
The trio from India in the men's 10m air pistol event, consisting of Sarabjot Singh, Shiva Narwal, and Arjun Singh Cheema, delivered an outstanding performance in the qualifications. Sarabjot shot a score of 580, closely followed by Arjun with 578, while Shiva ended up with 576, placing them in fifth, eighth, and fourteenth positions respectively. Their combined score of 1734 narrowly defeated the Chinese team, who secured a total of 1733.
Roshibina Devi upgraded her bronze medal at the Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia, as she won a silver medal at the Asian Games 2022. In the semi-final, Roshibina prevailed over Vietnam's contender Thi Thu Thuy Nguyen, with a 2-0 victory and advanced to the final. In a face-off against home favorite and defending champion Wu Xiaowei, she had to settle for the silver medal, as she lost by 0-2.
In the Equestrian Individual Dressage event, Anush Agarwalla scripted history by securing a bronze, marking India's first triumph in the segment. Anush performed to the tunes of 'Jai Ho' and 'Maa Tujhe Salaam' and registered a commendable score of 73.030%, riding on his reliable Etro.
Asian Games 2023: Updated Indian medal tally after 28th September

After day five of the Asian Games 2023, India ascended from the seventh to the fifth position on the leaderboard. India’s medal tally now stands at six gold, eight silver, and eleven bronze medals, with a total of 25. China consolidated its position at the top with a staggering 167 medals ( 90 gold, 51 silver, 26 bronze).
With 86 and 78 medals, South Korea and Japan remain in second and third place in the rankings respectively. Just ahead of India, Uzbekistan holds onto its fourth spot with 31 overall medals. The ranks from six to ten are occupied by Thailand, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Iran, and North Korea with 6, 5, 4, 3, and 3 gold medals respectively.

What to expect from the Indian contingent on September 29?
As we approach September 29, all eyes will be on Indian participants, hoping to witness outstanding performances and aiming for top positions in sports like Shooting and Athletics. Among those in the limelight are shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Akhil Sheoran, and Esha Singh, while Athletics is set to make its debut in this edition on Friday.
At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, India bagged a commendable 70 medals, which included 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze. The goal this year is to set a new benchmark by touching the 100-medal mark at least across various disciplines at the Asian Games 2023.
