The Asian Games 2023 is almost upon us. The quadrennial extravaganza also famously known as the Asiad will get underway with its 19th edition on September 23rd and will be held in Hangzhou which is situated in the Zhejiang Province of East China.
China will be hosting the Asian Games for the third time in their history after successfully hosting it in 1990 and 2010. The latest edition of the Asian Games is considered to be the biggest ever Asian Games as it will host nearly 12,500 athletes from 45 different countries. China is the most successful country in the history of the championship as they have won more than 300 medals ever since its inception. And this year they will want to go a step ahead and keep their lead intact.
After the Olympic Games, the Asian Games is regarded as the largest multi-sport event on the planet alongside other Continental Games. And this year, the championship will see the athletes go up against each other in 61 disciplines in 40 sports.
The Asian Games has adopted to go hand in hand with the changing times and has therefore announced the inclusion of E-Sports, Sport Climbing and also breakdancing to draw the interest of the future citizens. The 19th edition of the championship will stage its opening ceremony on September 23rd at China’s state-of-the-art facility the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium. It will be a mega event with the stadium very much prepared to host 80,000 people at once.
The stadium is also popularly known as the Big Lotus and was initially constructed as a football stadium but has now been transformed into a proper Olympic Sports Center and can cater the needs of various sports.
Although a few cricket, volleyball and football matches have already been played, the opening ceremony will be held on Saturday. The opening ceremony will showcase China’s historical cultural heritage as well as present day contemporary spirit.
