The 2023 Asian Games kicked off today, on 24th of September in Hangzhou, China. Multiple events across 61 disciplines and 40 sports will take place throughout the games. The Asian Games will welcome two new sports that will make their debut this year - eSports and breakdancing. Apart from these two new inclusions, Cricket, Golf and Chess will be making their presence felt in the 2023 Asian Games after being left out in the 2018 edition.

The day began with the three events of Rowing, Shooting, and Wushu. First up was rowing, with seven Gold medals at stake. The host nation, China, claimed six golds, with one Gold going to Hong Kong. India gave a good account of themselves, pocketing two silvers and two bronze medals. The Central Asian nation of Uzbekistan, too, shared the limelight with three silvers and one bronze.

A similar script unfolded in the 10m Air Rifle Women's Final, with the top prize going China’s way in the team and individual events. In the team format, India and Mongolia won the silver and bronze respectively. In the solo event, China claimed silver and the bronze went to India.

The third event of the day was the martial arts discipline of Wushu. Here China and the southeast nations of Indonesia, Macau, and Brunei dominated the scene, snapping up all the medals on offer. The men’s and women’s events saw China strike Gold. Indonesia and Macau took Silver and Bronze, respectively, in the men’s event. The women participants from Brunei and Hong Kong took second and third place in that order to earn brownie points for their respective countries.
