India managed to secure two gold medals on Day 2 to finish 6th in the table.

Cricket, which is marking its return to the Asian Games, saw Bangladesh playing Pakistan for the bronze medal in the Women’s cricket event. Bangladesh prevailed in the low-scoring affair, which, however, went down to the wire. Bangladesh restricted Pakistan to 64/9 after putting 65 on the board for the loss of five wickets. Shorna Akter was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers, picking up three wickets in her allotted four overs.

The Gold medal match between India and Sri Lanka followed, which India comfortably won by 19 runs. India batted first and set Sri Lanka a target of 117 runs for the fall of seven wickets. In reply, the Sri Lankans could manage to cobble together only 97/8  in their allotted 20 overs. Titas Sadhu bowled exceptionally well, claiming three Sri Lankan scalps at an economy rate of 1.50.

The adrenaline-fuelled sport of skateboarding was next, with the women going first. Japan’s Hinano Kusaki won gold, followed by the Chinese duo of Yujuan Li and Jiasi Mao, who claimed silver and bronze respectively.

The men’s event saw the situation reversed. China’s Ye Chen took top honours, followed by Japanese skateboarders Yuro Nagahara, who won silver, and Kensuke Sasaoka, who won bronze.

The outcome of the men’s and women’s fencing gold medal events was held towards the end of the day’s schedule. The men’s sabre individual gold medal bout saw two South Koreans, Sanguk Oh and Bongil Gu, face off for the top prize. The encounter went the way of the former, 15-7, as Bongil Gu had to settle for silver.

The women’s foil individual gold medal bout was between Yuka Ueno of Japan vs Qianqian Huan of China. This event ended in the favor of the Chinese, with the final score reading 8-15.
