India managed to bag only 3 medals on the day.

It was a mixed day at the office for the Indian contingent on day five of the Asian Games 2023. Indian shooters continue to perform well. It was the turn of the men to steal the show by winning the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Team event. They won the gold by a whisker as the lead over the Chinese team was a mere one point. India scored 1734 and China 1733.

This was India’s 4th gold in the shooting events and the 6th overall gold at the games. The Chinese squad took silver, and the Vietnamese ended up with the bronze.

In tennis, India had a fruitful day as well. A silver medal is a certainty after India got the better of South Korea in three sets in the men’s doubles semis. The other semifinal between Taiwan and Thailand was won by the former, also in three sets. India and Taiwan will battle it out for the gold medal in the doubles finals scheduled for tomorrow.

Anush Agarwalla performed well in today’s equestrian event, contributing an individual bronze in the Dressage event to add to the team Dressage gold he helped India win a day earlier. Agarwalla garnered a total of 73.030 points riding astride his horse, Etro. The gold medal went to Bin Mahamad Fathil of Malaysia with a score of 75.780, while Jacqueline Wing Ying Siu of Hong Kong won silver, scoring 73.450.

China has increased its total medal count to 167 and remains at the top of the table. The hosts have won 90 gold, 51  silver and 26 bronze. South Korea’s medal count of eighty-six is approximately half of China’s. Korea has 24 gold, 23 silver, and 39 bronze medals to their name. Next is Japan, with 78 medals, including 18 gold, 30 silver and 30 bronze.

There has been a shake-up among the next few countries on the table. Uzbekistan is still holding on to 4th place with 31 medals, but India and Thailand have leapfrogged Hong Kong to wind up in 5th and 6th places. India has 25 medals, and Thailand has 18 at the day’s end. All three countries have clinched six gold medals each. Hong Kong has added five medals to their overall tally, but their gold medal count remains unchanged from yesterday’s five.
