Asian Games 2023: Updated medal tally after Day 7, 30th September
India managed to bag 5 medals on the day.
The Indian duo of Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale beat Tawian’s Tsung-hao Huang and En-shuo Liang 2-6, 6-3, 10-4 to bag the tennis mixed doubles gold medal on Day 7 of the Asian Games 2023.
Taiwan took an early lead, winning the first set in thirty-three minutes. The Indian duo rebounded to claim the second set and wrap up the match, giving India its first tennis gold in the current edition. Bopanna and Bhosale quickly moved ahead 6-1 in the 10-point-tie-breaker and had the game pretty much in the bag during the game’s closing moments.
Indian men's squash team prevailed over Pakistan in the finals to secure another much-coveted gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. On this occasion, the scoreline was the reverse of the encounter when the two teams met in the pool stage, where Pakistan had prevailed with a 2-1 scoreline.
The first match was between Mahesh Mangaonkar and Nasir Iqbal, with the win going to the Pakistani player in 29 minutes, 11-8, 11-3, and 11-2. Saurav Ghosal helped India draw level with an 11-5, 11-1, 11-3 win over Muhammed Asim Khan.
All eyes were on Abhay Singh in the final match against Noor Zaman, who had to win if India was to take home the gold. There was a bit of a scare as the Indians won the first game but lost the next two. However, he recouped to win the final two games and the match. The Indian player was trailing 8-10 in the decider but reeled off four quick points to ensure India was not denied the top prize. The final scoreline was 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10 in Abhay Singh’s favour.
The Indian badminton team prevailed over the plucky South Koreans 3-2 in their men’s team semifinal and now have an opportunity to earn gold in their final matchup against hosts China on October 1st at 17:00 local time. China got the better of Japan 3-1 in the other semifinal. Whatever be the outcome of tomorrow’s face-off, India will walk away with another silver to their name.

China’s medal tally has ballooned to 216 in total, and among them can be found 114 gold. The host country’s tally is more than double that of second-placed Japan, who have 104 medals in all. South Korea is third overall with 109 medals but has 27 gold medals to Japan’s 28. Hence, it finds itself at third on the table.
Next are India and Uzbekistan, who have 38 and 37 medals respectively. Both countries also have an equal number of golds in their kitty, with ten each. India has fourteen silver to Uzbekistan’s eleven and fourteen bronze to the latter’s sixteen.
Up next are Thailand and Taiwan rounding off the top seven, owning 26 and 25 medals against their respective names. The Thais have one extra gold at eight compared to seven won by the Taiwanese. With regards to bronze, Thailand owns fourteen to Taiwan’s nine.
