Asian Para Games 2023: Young Haney sets new Games record to clinch gold in men's javelin throw F37/38 event

The 17-year-old surpassed the previous Games' record in five of his six attempts.

India's young teenage sensation Haney clinched historic gold in men's F37/38 javelin throw event at Asian Para Games 2023. With the gold medal run, the 17-year-old simultaneously broke the Games Record by registering a throw of 55.97m. The previous record was created in the inaugural edition in 2010 by Iran's Javed Hardani (46.28m).

Haney started the proceedings with a Games Record throw of 48.41m and kept improving his performance in the next two attempts. In his third attempt, the youngster got to his best throw of 55.97m. His compatriot Boby finished a credible sixth with a best effort of 42.33m.

Earlier in the day, Sumit Antil broke his own world record in men's F64 javelin throw. He was accompanied by Pushpendra Singh on the podium who finished on the third spot. Apart from field events, the track events produced notable performances. Narayan Thakur and Shreyansh Trivedi won bronze medals in men's T35 200m and men's T37 200m events respectively.

Narayan Thakur started the race pretty well but couldn't catch up pace with Alireza and Idrees who won gold and silver medals. Ravi Kumar the other Indian in the event finished last with a timing of 31.28 seconds. Menawhile Shreyansh Trivedi registered 25.26 seconds and just edged past Alzahrani Thamer Ahmed for the third spot.

Later in the day, Simran Kaur who won silver yesterday in women's 100m was back in action today in T12 200m. She registered 26.00 seconds in heat 2 and qualified for the final as the non-automatic qualifier. A total of four athletes from the list of five participants are scheduled to compete in the final.
