Just like their counterparts in the Asian Games, who soared past the 100-medal milestone with a remarkable tally of 107, the Indian para-athletes have scripted an inspiring story of triumph.

As of October 26, India's overall medal haul has surged to an impressive 82 medals and is still on the rise, as the nation chase an extraordinary performance at the Asian Para Games. This remarkable feat supersedes India's prior best showing in the Asian Para Games, which was recorded in the 2018 edition when they clinched a total of 15 gold medals. The nation's para-athletes have set a new standard for excellence, embodying the spirit of determination and achievement.

Among the shining stars, are the Compound mixed team duo of Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar, who clinched the coveted gold medal in Archery on October 26. Additionally, the men's doubles W1 open pair, consisting of Adil Mohamed Nazir Ansari and Naveen Dalal, secured a well-deserved bronze medal in the same sport.

In the field of Athletics, Narayan Thakur sprinted his way to a bronze medal in the men's 100m T35 category, while Shreyansh Trivedi showcased his athletic prowess with another bronze in the men's 100m T37 event.

At the Asian Para Games 2023, topping the charts, China lead the way with an incredible total of 392 medals, an astonishing combination of 156 gold, 128 silver, and 108 bronze.

Iran are in the second position, amassing a commendable total of 96 medals, which includes 32 gold, 36 silver, and 28 bronze. Meanwhile, Japan stand closely behind, securing the third rank with a total of 103 medals, featuring 30 gold, 32 silver, and 41 bronze.

In the rankings, South Korea are in fourth place, earning a total of 67 medals, including 20 gold, 21 silver, and 26 bronze. Their consistent performance in multiple sports has contributed to their overall standing. Uzbekistan stands at the fifth position with a total of 62 medals—20 gold, 19 silver, and 23 bronze—highlighting their dedication and skill in various sporting events.

Thailand are in the sixth position, showcasing a remarkable tally of 73 medals, with 20 gold, 18 silver, and 35 bronze. The Thai athletes' performances in a wide range of sports reflect their competitive spirit. Indonesia are at seventh with a total of 62 medals, followed by India who have a total of 82 medals—18 gold, 23 silver, and 41 bronze.

What to expect from the Indian contingent on 27th October?

On October 27th, the Indian contingent is set to participate in a wide array of sporting events at the Asian Para Games 2023, showcasing their incredible talents and determination. In archery, Sheetal Devi and Sarita are scheduled to compete in the women's individual compound semifinals, while Rakesh Kumar and Wu Chung-hung from Chinese Taipei will face off in the men's individual compound semis.

Meanwhile, in athletics, multiple finals and heats will take place, including the men's javelin throw, men's long jump, women's 400m, and men's 1500m, among others, presenting an opportunity for Indian athletes to shine on the track and field.

In cycling, the men's C1-3 road race and women's C1-5 road race are scheduled, as well as the men's H1-5 road race. The Indian blind football team will participate in the men's preliminary match against Thailand. In lawn bowls, mixed pairs from India are set to compete in various preliminary rounds.

Powerlifting will feature the men's 107kg Final, and in shooting, the mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH2 qualification and women's 50m Rifle 3P SH1 qualification events are on the agenda. Swimmers will take part in several heats, and in table tennis, China will go up against India in the mixed doubles class XD4 event.
