India recorded 111 medals at the Continent meet.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian para-athletes for their magnificent performance at the Asian Para Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. The Indian contingent crossed the century figure milestone and finished their campaign with a record-breaking total of 111 medals, which includes 29 gold, 31 silver, and 51 bronze in the fourth edition of Asian Para Games. This is the highest-ever medal tally for the nation at the continental meet, surpassing their previous best haul of 72 medals, at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta.
“100 Medals at the Asian Para Games! A moment of unparalleled joy. This success is a result of the sheer talent, hard work, and determination of our athletes,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on his ‘X’ handle, formerly Twitter.
“This remarkable milestone fills our hearts with immense pride. I extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to our incredible athletes, coaches, and the entire support system working with them. These triumphs inspire us all. They serve as a reminder that nothing is impossible for our youth”, he added.
Prime Minister Modi's congratulations for the Indian para-athletes were echoed by other leaders and sportspersons nationwide. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur said that the para-athletes had made India proud and that their achievements were a testament to the country's growing sporting prowess.
The stellar performance of Indian para-athletes at the Asian Para Games 2023 is a historic milestone, showcasing their hard work, dedication, and indomitable spirit. It also stands as a testament to India's rising domination in the world of sports and its commitment to fostering inclusivity and support for athletes with disabilities.
