Asian Para Games 2023: Raman Sharma wins gold in men's T-38 1500m, creates new Area Record

Pradeep Kumar won silver in shot put with a personal best performance.

India's Raman Sharma created history by winning gold in men's T-38 1500m at Asian Para Games 2023 by clocking 4:20.80 in a close finish. The youngster was held to the second spot for the majority of the race but caught up pace in the last two laps. He was behind Freitas by 40m and then in the last 20m leapfrogged the leader to the top spot. In the process, Raman went on to create a new Area and Games record.

Devendar Kumar clinched gold in men's F-64 discus throw by registering 49.72m. Other Indians in the fray, Pardeep and Sourav followed Devender to win silver and bronze medals respectively. A total of only three athletes competed in the event and all of them turned out to be from India.

Hailing from Dadri, Haryana, Devender took up the sport pretty late but has gone on to reach good success. He was guided by his cousin brother to take up sports and later took up discus throw under coach Sandeep Kumar. Devendar since 2019, has won several medals; four medals in discus throw at the National Para Athletics Championship.

Apart from the national meet, he has actively participated in the foreign competitions. He won gold and silver medal each at World Para Athletics Dubai Grand Prix in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

Later in the day, Pradeep Kumar clinched silver with a personal best mark of 25.94m and was followed by Laxit who clinched bronze with a best effort of 21.20m in men's F-54 javelin throw. Meanwhile, Abhishek Chamoli the third Indian in the event could not register a score and finished last.
