Total medals won by India in each sport in Asian Para Games history

Indian para athletes recorded their best-ever medal haul in the 2022 edition of the tournament.

Indian para-athletes have achieved a remarkable milestone, securing an unprecedented 111 medals at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games 2023, marking the highest medal count for the nation in any major multi-sport competition. Their impressive haul includes 29 gold, 32 silver, and 51 bronze medals, enabling India to secure the fifth position in the overall medal standings. This achievement surpasses their previous best medal haul at the 2018 Asian Para Games, where they earned 72 medals, reflecting an extraordinary increase of 39 additional medals compared to the previous edition.

The sport of athletics played a significant role in this success, contributing to a substantial portion of India's total medal count, with 55 medals to their credit. Para badminton also contributed 21 medals to India's final after a medal rush on the penultimate day.

India at 2010 Asian Para Games

Since the Inception of the Asian Para Games, Indian para-athletes have been known attendees at the Asian Para Games event. In the inaugural edition of the Asian Para Games in 2010, Indian para-athletes won a decent overall tally of 14 medals, which included 1 gold, 4 silver, and 9 bronze Medals.

The athletics event got the most medals (11) including the lone gold medal by Jagseer Singh in the men's triple jump F46. The remaining medals were won in badminton, weightlifting, and wheelchair fencing with bronze medal apiece.

India at 2014 Asian Para Games

The Indian para-athletes progressed well in the Asian Para Games 2014 with 33 Medals 3 gold, 14 silver, and 16 bronze. Athletics yet again was the major contributor to India's medals with 17 out of which two were gold medals. The badminton event earned six medals out of which one was gold.

The rest of the medals were won in swimming, Judo, and powerlifting with 7, 2, and 1 medal respectively. Amit Kumar Sharoha and Harad Kumar won the gold medal in the athletic events while Parul Parmar secured gold in the badminton.

India at 2018 Asian Para Games

Indian para-athletes became a competitive force to reckon with in the 2018 Asian Para Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Indian contingent won 72 medals — 15 gold, 24 silver, and 33 bronze — in the 2018 edition. The Indian Para-Contingent managed to better their medal-winning tally by a massive 39 medals.

Once again Para athletics was the major contributor with 36 medals, of which seven were gold. The other major contributors w.r.t to events were badminton, chess, and para swimming with 9, 9, and 8 medals respectively.

India at 2023 Asian Para Games

The recent edition of the Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China, saw Indian Para-athletes produce their best-ever performance and win a whopping 111 medals, of which 29 came in gold. The Indian para-athletes broke the 100-medal barrier with some world-record performances at the Asian Para Games 2023.

India's goal of #ISBAAR100PAAR was successfully breached by the para-athletes in the Asian Para Games 2023. The Indian Para-Contingent opened new doors of imagination and Inspiration with their gritty and determined performances.
