Upcoming events for Indian athletes ahead of Asian Games 2023
The sportspersons will be looking to showcase their talents at these events.
India has had one of its best runs in the history of the Commonwealth Games in the 2022 edition of the same. The Indian athletes ended its campaign with as many as 22 gold medals. India finished the Commonwealth Games 2022 in the fourth position, with 16 silver and 23 bronze medals and a total of 61 medals.
This edition of the Commonwealth Games, which were held in Birmingham, England, saw the rise of a lot of young Indian athletes who assured the country of a good future in the sporting arena in the years to come. Now that the games have come to an end, we’ll take a look at the major sporting events for various athletes in the months to come.
Badminton
The Indian Badminton contingent was more than impressive in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2022. They contributed three gold and one bronze medal to India's medal tally. PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and the men’s pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty secured gold in the men’s singles, women’s singles and men’s doubles categories respectively. Kidambi Srikanth secured bronze in the men’s singles category.
However, our shuttlers will not have a lot of time to rest as the BWF World Championships, one of the most high-profile badminton tournaments will be taking place from August 21st to 28th. In the previous edition, Kidambi Srikanth won silver while Lakshya Sen won bronze. Other than this, the Japan Open Super 750 is another tournament to look out for the Indians this month. It will take place from August 30 and will end on September 4. The other major upcoming events include:

Boxing
India secured four medals in boxing at the recently concluded edition of the Commonwealth Games 2022. India’s medal hunting began with Nitu Ganghas securing gold in the women’s 48kg on the 10th day of the Commonwealth Games 2022. It was followed by two more gold medals, as Amit Panghal won in the men’s flyweight category, while young boxing sensation and current World Champion Nikhat Zareen won in the women’s flyweight category. India’s lone silver in the sport was secured by Sagar Ahlawat in the men’s 92kg category.

Table Tennis
Table Tennis was also one of the sports where India did exceedingly well. Experienced paddler Achanta Sharat Kamal secured gold medals in three categories- men’s singles, men’s team, mixed doubles and men’s doubles and silver in men’s doubles. Bhavina Patel secured a gold medal in the para table tennis- women’s class 3-5. Sarthiyan Gnanasekharan and Sonal Patel secured vronze in men’s singles and women’s singles class 3-5.

India’s table tennis contingent will be looking forward to performing well in the upcoming World Championship that will start at the end of September and will be held in Chengdu, China.
Hockey
India had a disappointing end to both men's and women’s hockey campaigns. While the men’s team were defeated in the finals by Australia in the finals, the women were defeated by the same opposition in the semi-finals. The men had settled for silver and the women for bronze. However, both teams will be looking to improve their performance in the upcoming tournaments. Here’s what lies ahead for them in the coming months.

Wrestling
The wrestlers did well for India at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2022 and this was evident in the medal tally as well. India secured 12 medals in the sport with six gold, silver and five bronze medals. India’s gold medalists at the event were Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Deepak Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Naveen. With many international tournaments and games coming up, India’s prospects look pretty bright in the sport. Let’s take a look at the major upcoming wrestling tournaments.

Archery and Shooting
India has been one of the strongest performers in shooting at the Commonwealth Games. Apart from 63 gold medals, the tricolour nation has also clinched 44 silver and 28 bronze medals. In terms of the number of gold medals won, only Australia is ahead by seven.
At the previous edition on the Gold Coast, Indian shooters alone bagged 16 of the country’s total tally of 66 medals. Manu Bhaker, then a 16-year-old, made an impressive debut beating her senior Heena Sidhu to gold and a Games record in the women’s 10m air pistol.
Archery was also not a part of the Commonwealth Games 2022. Both Deepika Kumari and Jyothi Vennam were potential medal contenders in this event.
