Sanjivani Jadhav claims silver in women's 10,000m at Portland Track Festival

The 26-year-old becomes the first Indian to run below 33 minutes in 10000m since 2018

India's Sanjivani Jadhav bagged the silver medal in women's 10,000m at the Portland Track Festival on Sunday, June 3rd. The 2017 Asian Championships bronze medallist clocked 32:46:88s to finish second behind Weynshet Weldestadisk. This was Sanjivani's personal best mark with her previous PB (33:13.07) recorded last year at the Senior Federation Cup.

The 26-year-old ran the fastest 10,000m by an Indian woman since 2018 and this is also her first run under 33 minutes. The athlete also frequently competes in 5000m and won the silver medal in the recently concluded Senior Federation Cup 2023 held in Ranchi and simultaneously bagged the top spot in the 10,000m. Her major victory came at the Asian Championships 2017, Odisha where she bagged the bronze medal in the 5000m.

Meanwhile another Indian athlete at the event Shankar Lal Swami finished 11th in the men's 3000 steeplechase. He clocked 08:45.48s to finish 11th out of the 13 participants overall. This competition was Sankar Lal's third foreign meet of the season and in the last race at the Track Night in New York, he failed to finish the race. Shankar, 26, holds a personal best time of 8:32.01s which he created last year and has failed to get close to his personal best time this year.

Jyothi Yarraji will be seen in action later in the day at the Orlen Memorial of Janusz Kusociński. Olympic champion Camacho-Quinn will be spearheading the women's 100m hurdles at the meet.
