Jeswin Aldrin wins gold at Citius athletics meet in Switzerland

The Indian long jumper also created a meet record with his gold medal winning leap.
Indian long-jumper Jeswin Aldrin accomplished a remarkable feat by securing the gold medal at the Citius Meeting in Bern, Switzerland on Friday. Displaying exceptional skill and talent, the 21-year-old set a new meet record with a remarkable jump of 8.22m. Hailing from Tamil Nadu, India, Aldrin’s outstanding performance surpassed all expectations.
During the competition, Jeswin Aldrin showcased his prowess by achieving jumps of 8.17m and 8.14m in the second and fourth attempts, respectively. Despite an unfortunate foul in the second attempt, he exhibited remarkable consistency and determination. Displaying his repertoire of skills, Aldrin’s exceptional first jump stood as the highlight of the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level event.
The competition was graced by the presence of esteemed athletes such as Lester Lescay, who represented Cuba in the recent Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and Ruswahl Samaai from South Africa, a distinguished two-time Commonwealth Games medallist.

Jeswin Aldrin’s triumphant jump over the 8m mark at this event marked his first such achievement since May, having participated in four events during that period. Notably, he had set the national record of 8.42m in Bellary back in March.
This event held particular significance for Jeswin Aldrin as it marked his comeback after the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships held in June. Regrettably, due to an injury, he had to withdraw from the Lausanne Diamond League and the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok in July.
