H Manikanta creates new national record in men's 100m at National Open Athletics Championships 2023

H. Manikanta from services broke the national record in men's 100m semifinals at the ongoing 62nd National Open Athletics Championships 2023 in Bengaluru. The five-day long competition started on October 10 and will continue until October 15. Several high-profile athletes have registered their names for the meet but are yet to take part.
In the 100m heats held in the morning session, Manikanta clocked 10.50 seconds and finished first in his heat. He then went on to break the national record with a 10.23s run in the semifinals later in the afternoon. Manikanta finished way ahead of the seasoned Elakkiyadasan and surpassed the 100m national record set by Amiya Kumar Mallick in 2016. Amiya had set the NR at 10.26s eight years ago.
Making his senior debut, Manikanta ran the race with ease and could have reduced few more seconds from his existing semis time. He will look to better his new PB and set a new national record in the final tomorrow (October 12th).
The 62nd National Open Athletics Championships 2023 started with men's decathlon which had the likes of Stalin Joes and Yamandeep Sharma, who set a new PB score at the national inter states athletics championships in June earlier this year.
In the final, Manikanta will have tough battle from Siva who won the gold medal at inter state athletics meet. Earlier at the Inter services athletics meet, the youngster clocked 10.31 seconds.
