The 24-year-old struck 10.25 seconds on the clock at the Inter-Railway Athletics Championships.
Amlan Borgohain, a 24-year-old Assamese youth, set a new national record in the men's 100m at the Inter-Railway Athletics Championships in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. Borgohain set a new national record of 10.25 seconds.
However, it falls far short of the qualifying standard (10.00 seconds) for the Budapest World Championships next year. Amlan Borgohain is a top sprinter in the country. Amiya Kumar Malick previously held the 100-meter record, clocking in at 10.26 seconds. "A standard has been established. It will be ratified if the process is followed. "It is a magnificent performance delivered by young Amlan", said Adille Sumariwalla, president of the Athletics Federation of India.
Amlan was first observed by James Hiller
Amlan was spotted as an athlete while he was still in school by James Hiller, the head coach at the Reliance Foundation's Odisha Athletics High-Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar.
Hiller admires Amlan's strength and conditioning efforts and gives him full credit for them. "Amlan had 13% body fat when he started, and now he has 7%," Hillier said. "His muscle mass has also increased. We will work on everything; there will be no special emphasis. "I won't say how much he can improve because that would limit his potential," added the Welsh coach.
At the Federation Cup earlier this year, the 24-year-old set a new national record in the men's 200m with a time of 20.52 seconds. Amiya Kumar Malick previously held the 100-meter record in 10.26 seconds. Amlan's time of 10.34 seconds on Monday was a significant improvement over his previous best time in the 100m race.
Amlan took his mother's advice and decided to sprint on the track. Her decision paid off, and he is now the fastest Indian in history. The 24-year-old athlete hopes to finish on top of the podium at the upcoming Nationals and Open Nationals.
Cristiano Ronaldo fan
Amlan is a big fan of Manchester United's top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo. He used to play a lot of football. Amlan was inspired to improve his physical fitness by both Ronaldo and former Indian captain Sunil Chhetri. Amlan used to get a lot of injuries while playing football. His mother then advised him to either change the sport or quit the sport entirely.
Future Prospect
The fact that he could have qualified for the 100-meter semi-finals with a time of 10.25 seconds at the Birmingham games demonstrates the significance of his achievement. India may be able to compete at the highest levels of international 100 m competition with Amlan's consistent improvement. Therefore, talking about Amlan’s future prospects, Amlan was just 0.25 seconds slower otherwise he would have automatically qualified for the World Budapest in 2023. Amlan is undoubtedly a very talented sprinter and with the age, on his side, he might improve his timings who knows he might become the 2nd athlete after Neeraj Chopra to win an athletic medal for India at the Olympics.
