Both teams have qualified for the Olympics.
Both the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams from India secured second place on the final day of the inaugural Asian Relays Championships 2024 held in Bangkok. The competition took place under thundershowers at the Suphachalasai National Stadium in Thailand.
In the women’s 4x400m relay, the team of Vithya Ramraj, MR Poovamma, Prachi Chaudhary, and Rupal Chaudhary finished with a time of 3 minutes 33.55 seconds, earning the silver medal behind Vietnam, who clocked 3 minutes 30.81 seconds. Japan claimed the bronze with a time of 3 minutes 35.45 seconds.
The men’s 4x400m relay team, consisting of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Santosh Kumar, Mijo Chacko Kurian, and Arokia Rajiv, finished their race in 3 minutes 5.76 seconds. They were second to Sri Lanka, who won the gold with a time of 3 minutes 4.48 seconds, while Vietnam took the bronze in 3 minutes 7.37 seconds.
Despite these results, both Indian relay teams have already secured their places for the upcoming Paris Olympics due to their performances at the World Athletics Relays 2024 in the Bahamas earlier this month. Vithya and Prachi were not part of the team that qualified for Paris; instead, Jyothika Sri Dandi and Subha Venkatesan had joined Poovamma and Rupal in achieving a qualifying time of 3 minutes 29.42 seconds.
On day one of the Asian Relay Championships 2024, the Indian quartet of Muhammed Ajmal, Jyothika Sri Dandi, Jacob, and Subha Venkatesan clinched gold in the mixed 4x400m relay at the inaugural Asian Relay Championships 2024 in Bangkok. They set a new national record of 3:14.12, bettering the previous mark of 3:14.34. Sri Lanka and Vietnam secured silver and bronze respectively in the event.
