India ended day 1 with five gold medals and rewrote two meet records.

The Indian mixed 4x400m relay team clinched the gold medal at the South Asian Athletics Championships 2025 on Friday, October 24. The Indian team, consisting of Rashid, Mohammed Ashfaq, Neeru Pathak, and Olimba Steffi, clocked a timing of 3:20.13 seconds to finish on the podium.

Sri Lanka bagged the silver medal, with a time of 3:20.85 seconds, while Nepal took home the bronze medal, having completed the race in 3:37.16 seconds. Bangladesh and the Maldives finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Bhutan didn’t field a team in the event.

The fourth edition of the South Asian Athletics Championships 2025 is currently underway at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Over 75 Indian athletes will take the field across three days between October 24 to 26.

Several other Indian athletes also clinched medals on the opening day of the South Asian Senior Athletics Championships 2025. Team India won five gold medals, six silver, and three bronze medals on Day 1 of the competition.

Pranav Gurav set a new meet record in the men’s 100m event. Samardeep Gill and Ravi Kumar shattered the meet record in the men’s shot put, while medalists Sanjana Singh and Seema set a new meet record in the women’s 5000m event on Friday.
