Both Indian athletes will want to be in top form ahead of Paris 2024.
Reigning Olympic and world champion, Neeraj Chopra, is all set to kick off his 2024 athletics season at the Doha Diamond League Meet on May 10.
Neeraj, who has shifted his training base from Potchefstroom to Antalya in Turkiye in the first week of March will mark his first competitive return after clinching Asian Games gold in October.
Chopra, the first Indian athlete to claim the Diamond League championship in 2022 will be contending against former world champion Anderson Peters and Jakub Vadlejch, reigning Diamond League champion from the Czech Republic.
Also in the mix is Kishore Jena, Chopra’s compatriot and the 2022 Asian Games silver medallist. Jena’s presence adds an exciting dimension to the competition.
“Last year my dream was to win the World Championships, but to have three Indian athletes competing in the final – that shows we’re progressing as a nation,” said the world champion in a statement by Diamond League.
“This year, my personal goal is to defend my Olympic title, but it would also mean a lot to me to break the 90m barrier. The Doha Meeting, with good conditions and a great atmosphere, is a perfect opportunity to get my season off to the best start.
“I’m always overwhelmed by the warm support I get from Indians across the world and in Qatar that is particularly special. I feel privileged that so many people come out to support me and I hope I can repay their faith in me with a good performance.”
