Parul Chaudhary won Silver in the 3000m steeplechase at Asian Games last year.
Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary will compete in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Eugene Diamond League meet in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday.
Chaudhary is coming off a successful 2023 season where she won gold in the 5000m and silver in the 3000m steeplechase at the Asian Games. She also broke the national record in the steeplechase at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.
However, Chaudhary will be an underdog in the stellar steeplechase field in Eugene. Leading the field is world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya, the two-time defending Diamond League champion in the event. Other top Kenyan entries include 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Jackline Chepkoech and 2021 World U20 champion Faith Cherotich.
This is Chaudhary’s first Diamond League competition of 2024 as she prepares for the Paris Olympics. In January, she was approved to train at altitude in Colorado Springs under American coach Scott Simmons.
The Eugene Diamond League is the fifth meeting of the Diamond League series and marks the last event outside Europe for the season. Following Eugene, the series will continue with 10 meetings across Europe. Athletes will compete in 14 Diamond League disciplines, including six men’s and eight women’s events.
