Haryana’s javelin thrower Himanshu broke Neeraj Chopra‘s meet record in the Men’s U-18 javelin throw event at the 40th National Junior Athletics Championships 2025.

The young Indian athlete recorded a best throw of 79.96m in his second attempt to break Neeraj’s meet record of 76.50, set during the 2014 edition of the competition.

Himanshu began his campaign with a foul throw and followed it up with a record-breaking throw of 79.96m. He opted out of the third attempt, having qualified for the final.

Rajat Kumar was the only other javelin thrower to reach the 70m mark. He recorded a best throw of 71.15m in his first attempt, and then decided to skip the remaining two throws.

28 players were expected to take the field in the qualification round of the men’s under-18 javelin throw event. Two players did not start the event, and two failed to register a legal throw in three given attempts and thus were eliminated without a mark.
