Chase Jackson records the second best throw of this season at Lausanne Diamond League 2024.
USA’s world shot put champion Chase Jackson gained redemption after missing out on the Olympic final by producing a dominant performance at Lausanne Diamond League 2024 against a field including the German athlete who won surprise gold at Paris Olympics 2024, Yemisi Ogunleye.
Jackson threw a season’s best of 20.64m, just four centimeters shy of the world lead set by Canada’s Sarah Mitton, who finished third with 19.52m. Ogunleye claimed second place with 19.55m.
Jackson started off on the right note with a throw of 19.75m which would have also given her a first place finish. Ogunleye recorded her best throw in her attempt which was marked at 19.55m. Mitton, who holds the best throw of this season had a bit of momentum going but ran out of steam in the end.
Jackson was the only athlete to breach the 20m mark at Lausanne and she did it twice. In her third attempt, the American recorded a throw of 20.64m and the next round she was marked at 20.17m.

Dina Asher-Smith records her season best timing to win women’s 100m at Lausanne Diamond League 2024
Dina Asher-Smith held on to a brilliant start in the women’s 100m to win the title in 10.88 secs. Her reaction time was also the fastest in the field at 0.121 secs. The 28-year-old had finished fourth in the 200m at Paris Olympics 2024 and lost in the semifinals in the 100m.
But Asher-Smith made sure it did not repeat at Lausanne as she recorded a season best timing. She is now a single point behind this season’s Diamond League leader Tamari Davis who has 21 points. Davis finished second with a timing of 10.97 secs.
Meanwhile, 32-year-old Mujinga Kambundji finished third with a timing of 11.06 seconds and was one hundredth of a second faster than Marie-Josée Ta Lou.
Asher-Smith was almost close to her personal best of 10.83 secs which she had first clocked in 2019 and then in 2022. She will hope to keep up her form and take over Davis in the Diamond League standings.
