While fans might be disheartened by the absence of some big names in the lineup for the upcoming Lausanne Diamond League, it’s essential to understand that not all athletes are ready to jump back into competition so soon after the demanding Paris Olympics 2024. 5. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone
The release of the Wanda Diamond League schedule highlighted the absence of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone from the women’s 400m hurdles at the Lausanne meet. The news has generated mixed reactions with some fans speculating that her absence is linked to coach Bobby Kersee’s strategic decisions.
Since her 2021 Olympic gold in the 400m hurdles, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has not raced in any Diamond League events and has focused on select races instead.
In Paris, the 25-year-old not only defended her Olympic title but also improved her previous best by 0.28 seconds to set a new world record for the sixth time. Her Lausanne absence could therefore be a planned move in a broader race strategy.
4. Noah Lyles
The 27-year-old who raced while battling COVID-19 at Paris 2024 earned a bronze medal in the men’s 200 meters despite his illness.
Still feeling the aftereffects, Lyles has decided not to race again this year. Consequently, he will miss the Lausanne Diamond League and the chance to face Tebogo.
Additionally, from Team USA , Kenneth Bednarek, the 200m silver medalist will also not compete which deprives the event of key sprinting stars.

3. Sha’Carri Richardson
Though she has not provided any reasons for her withdrawal, Paris Olympics Silver medalist Sha’Carri Richardson who was the previous top pick in the women’s 100 meter will also be absent.
Additionally, bronze medalist Melissa Jefferson who is also from Team USA will also not compete. Julien Alfred, who claimed gold for Saint Lucia is also not on the list. Hence, the entire Paris Olympics 100m podium will be missing from the Lausanne Diamond League.
2. Masai Russell
Masai Russell clinched victory in the women’s 100-meter hurdles in the Paris Olympics with a photo finish by narrowly beating home favorite Cyréna Samba-Mayela by 0.01 seconds.
Despite her impressive win, Russell will not participate in the Lausanne Diamond League. This absence will open the door for silver medalist Samba-Mayela to potentially take the top podium spot in her absence.
1. Quincy Hall
In a recent update, Olympic champion Quincy Hall was forced to withdraw from the Lausanne meeting due to an injury. Hall, who won gold in the 400m at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a dramatic finish of 43.40 seconds was replaced by his compatriot Bryce Deadmon.
At the Paris Games, Hall overtook Matthew Hudson-Smith who finished with 43.44 seconds after being in fourth place for most of the race was set to compete against Hudson-Smith again at the Lausanne Diamond League.
However , Deadmon, who won Olympic gold in the 4×400 relay and silver in the mixed relay will now take Hall’s place.
