Kamalpreet Kaur clinches Olympic qualification with national record

Indian athlete Kamalpreet Kaur qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in women’s discus throw as she created a national record with an attempt of 65.06m during the ongoing 24th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala on Friday.

She played brilliantly in the tournament and her throw was well above the benchmark (63.5m) required to qualify for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Kamalpreet Kaur, who plays for Railways, broke the previous national record which was held by Seema Antil. This is the first time that the 65m mark has been breached by an Indian player in this event. Senior athlete Seema Punia grabbed the second position in the competition as she only managed to reach 62.64m.

Sonal Goyal of Delhi came on the third position with an attempt of 52.11m.
