Jeswin Aldrin was making his Olympic debut at Paris.
Jeswin Aldrin could perform his best in men’s long jump qualification at Paris Olympics 2024. The youngster had a rough start to the event and was hoping to make a comeback but was cut short. Jeswin Aldrin, who holds the national record of 8.42m, faced a tough day at the Stade de France. He started with two fouls, leaving him with just one last chance to make his mark.
On his final jump, Jeswin Aldrin managed a distance of 7.61m. Unfortunately, this was not enough to reach the automatic qualification mark of 8.15m set for the event.
The 22-year-old athlete had barely made it to the Olympics, ranking 31st out of 32 qualifiers. His personal best of 8.42m, set in March 2023, had given fans hope for a strong showing. Jeswin Aldrin will be in rue of his first two attempts as it eliminated his chances of qualifying.
In contrast, World No. 1 and defending champion Miltiadis Tentoglou from Greece showed why he’s the top-ranked jumper. Tentoglou easily cleared the qualification mark with a jump of 8.32m on his first try. He and Radek Juska were the only athletes to enter the finals via the qualification mark.

Juska in his first attempt achieved 7.85m and in the second he leaped 8.15m. Only six athletes cleared the 8m mark in the qualification round. Batza Simon was placed 12th with a best attempt of 7.90m as he entered the finals in his debut Olympics.
Jeswin Aldrin’s early exit highlights how tough Olympic competitions can be. Even the best athletes can have off days and at the Olympics, there’s little room for error.
While it’s a setback for Indian athletics at Paris Olympics 2024, Aldrin’s participation itself is an achievement. At 22, he has time to learn from this experience and come back stronger in future competitions.
