Two-time Asian Games champion, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, ended with just one valid throw.
At the Paris Olympics 2024, India’s Tajinderpal Singh Toor placed 15th in Group A and was ranked 29th overall in the men’s shot put qualification round in his second appearance at the Summer Games. Tajinderpal Singh Toor threw 18.05m on his first attempt which ended up as his only valid throw. This was well below both the qualification standard for the final and his season best of 20.38m.
The Indian athlete’s troubles continued as he fell well short in his second attempt. Despite this, the red flag was raised which invalidated his attempt altogether.
Standing in 15th place and on the brink of finishing last, the Indian had one final attempt to turn things around and avoid the bottom spot. In order to advance, the Indian had to exceed 20.09 meters, the benchmark set by Portugal’s Tsanko Arnaudov.
Sadly, Tajinderpal registered another foul throw, securing 15th place and resulting in his elimination.
At Tokyo 2020, the reigning Asian Games champion showcased a significantly better performance and had recorded a best throw of 19.99m despite injuring his wrist during which resulted in a 13th-place finish overall and prevented him from reaching the final. As a result, he failed to advance to the Olympic final for the second consecutive edition.

Nevertheless, Tajinderpal Singh Toor who is the two-time Asian Games gold medalist, Asian champion and four-time national champion has had a distinguished career in shot put.
He set a new men’s national record of 21.49m at the 2021 Indian Grand Prix and surpassed the 12-year-old Asian record of 21.13m. Toor later improved his mark to 21.77m at the 2023 nationals.
However, his Asian record was surpassed by Mohamed Daouda Tolo of Saudi Arabia in June 2024.
As the second day of athletics concluded in Paris, no athletes advanced to the final as India’s Ankita finished 20th in Heat 1 of the Women’s 5000m Round 1 with a time of 16:19.38 and in Heat 2, Parul Chaudhary recorded a season-best time of 15:10.68 but finished 14th. The top eight from each heat advanced to the final.
