World Championships Record

Neeraj Chopra is yet to break the World Athletics Championship record in men’s javelin throw. His best throw in the event is 88.17m, which he recorded to win the gold medal at the 2023 edition in Budapest.
His current coach, Jan Železný, holds the men’s javelin throw record in the World Athletics Championships. He recorded a throw of 92.80m in 2001, and his record has been unbreakable since then. Neeraj Chopra will look to break his record during the upcoming edition of the World Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place between September 13 and 21 in Tokyo.
Olympic Record
Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem holds the Olympic Record in men’s javelin throw, with a best throw of 92.27m, set during the previous edition of the Olympics in Paris. Arshad won the gold medal with the record-breaking throw.
Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra clinched the silver medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 with a best throw of 89.45m. His throw in the previous Olympic Games is his best in the quadrennial event.
Diamond League Record
The Diamond League record of 93.90m is held by Germany’s Thomas Röhler, who achieved the feat at the Doha Diamond League in 2017. His throw also saw him break the German National Record and registered the second-best throw in the history of men’s javelin throw.
Neeraj Chopra threw 90.23m in the recently concluded edition of the Doha Diamond League in May 2025, which is his best throw in the Diamond League. The 90m+ throw helped the two-time Olympic medalist better his own National Record.
World Record
Neeraj Chopra’s coach, Jan Zelezny, holds the World Record of 98.48m in the men’s javelin throw. The great javelin thrower set this record in 1996, and it remained in his name for almost three decades.
