The pair won in straight sets 21-13 21-19 against Lu Chang Yao and Yang Po Han of Chinese Taipei.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s dream run in 2022 continues with yet another title win at French Open. The duo defeated the pair of Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han from Chinese Taipei in the men’s doubles final of the French Open. The French Open success meant that the World Number 8 duo won a Commonwealth Gold, Thomas Cup and also a bronze in the World Championships in 2022.

Straightforward victory

In the final, Rankireddy and Shetty won in straight games 21-13, 21-19 in a clash that lasted 48 minutes. Both teams are known for their attacking gameplay but it was the Indians who came out all guns blazing and took a 5-0 lead. The first game was a straightforward win for the Indian pair but the second game was more evenly fought. Shetty and Rankireddy took a six-point lead into the break in the second game but the Chinese Taipei pair came roaring back to make it 14-14. However, the Indians held their nerves in the end at eventually ended up clinching the second game as well.

The French Open win means that this is the pair’s third world tour title. The duo also won the 2019 Thailand Open and the Indian Open in 2022. The Indian pair was the runner-up in this tournament back in 2019.

World Junior Championships

In the World Junior Championships, India’s Sankar Muthusamy won the silver medal after losing against Chinese Taipei’s Kuo Kuan Lin in the finals. In a clash that lasted 48-minutes, Kuo Kuan Lin got the better of Muthusamy 21-14, 22-20. While the first game was a bit one-sided, the second game was much more competitive. An incredible comeback looked on the cards when Sankar saved six match points to make it 20-20. But eventually, it was Kuan Kin that came out on top.

Sankar Muthusamy became the fourth Indian to win a silver medal in this prestigious tournament following the likes of Aparna Popat, Saina Nehwal and Siril Verma.
