All England Open 2023: Full list of Indian participants
Lakshya Sen played in the final of Men's Singles in the last edition.
The prestigious BWF All England Badminton Championships or popularly known as the All England Open is set to be held from 14-19 March at the Arena Birmingham, England. This is one of the oldest tournaments introduced in 1899 and is organized by Badminton England and sanctioned by the BWF (Badminton World Federation). Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in the mixed doubles are the only seeded pair (Indian) across all five sections.
The 2023 season has not started on a good note for the Indian contingent apart from the Asian Badminton mixed team championships. Lakshya Sen lost in the opening encounter at the BWF 300 German Open to a lower-ranked player. The 21-year-old failed to cross the quarterfinals stage this season starting with the Malaysian Open. He was the finalist at the All England Open losing to Victor Axelson in the final.
HS Prannoy finished the 2022 season as the number-one singles player from India but couldn't replicate the same performance in 2023. The 30-year-old failed to go beyond the R32 starting with the Malaysian Open and also lost in the second round to Kiran George at the Senior National Championships. Kidambi Srikkanth has been off-colour for the past few months and needs to get back to form before the start of the Olympics cycle.
PV Sindhu had a tough time post-rehab and has been off-colour in the tournaments she has participated in this year. And she is yet to win the coveted All England Open title. After a successful partnership with coach Park Tae-Sang, Sindhu had to change her coach as well. Saina Nehwal on the other hand is trying to regain back her old form and showed a few glimpses of it at the Indian Open.
MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will be playing together for the first time as a pair this season after the former suffered from an injury earlier this year. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy is also back from an injury (at the Indian Open). Chirag and Dhruv performed well as a pair at the Badminton Asia mixed team championships.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand finished in the top 4 in the previous edition of the All England Open. The pair have started the 2023 season on a bright note beating higher-ranked opponents.
