Jonatan Christie captured his first-ever Badminton Asia Championships title.
The finals of the Badminton Asia Championships 2024 saw Indonesian star Jonatan Christie capture his first-ever Asia Championships title with a straight games victory over China’s Li Shi Feng. However, it was the Chinese players who dominated the other events on the final day.
In the marquee men’s singles final, Christie defeated the former All England Champion Li 21-15, 21-16 in an intense battle. Christie raced to an early lead in the second game before Li made a late charge, but the Indonesian held his nerve to close out the biggest title of his career so far.
The women’s singles final was an all-Chinese affair, with Wang Zhiyi stunning reigning Olympic gold medalist Chen Yufei 21-19, 21-7 to claim her second Asia Championships crown.
China continued its dominance in the doubles events. In men’s doubles, Wang Chang and Liang Wei Kang defeated Malaysia’s Nur Izzuddin and Goh Sze Fei 21-17, 15-21, 21-10.
The women’s doubles belonged to Korea’s Lee So Hee and Baek Ha Na, who took down China’s Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu 23-21, 21-12.
In the mixed doubles final, China’s Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping edged out Korea’s Seo Seung Jae and Chae Yu Jang 21-13, 15-21, 21-14.
With the Badminton Asia Championships concluded, all focus now turns to Olympic qualification for the Paris Games, with the window closing at the end of April.
