Seven mixed doubles pair have withdrawn from China Open 2024.
China Open 2024 has seen the opening round matches get underway. While the fight for the title has begun, there have been players who have withdrawn from the event. There were initially 274 players confirmed in the event but few top players have stepped away from the tournament. The only category where there has been no withdrawals is men’s doubles.
Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-Yi will not be competing at China Open 2024 in men’s singles. He had captured the Taipei Open on September 8 but since then has not played any matches. Yi’s opening round opponent was drawn to be world no #1 Shi Yu Qi, but was later cancelled due to his withdrawal.
In the women’s singles main draw, defending champion An Se Young will not be in action. The South Korean player has not made a comeback to the BWF tour since winning gold in the Paris Olympics. Joining her will be Supanida Katethong who reached the semi-finals of the Japan Open last month.
Nozomi Okuhara is also one of the top ranked players to have joined the absentee list in China Open 2024. She last played during the Japan Open while losing in the round of 16. Okuhara has not reached a final since the Indonesia Masters in January this season. She also did not compete in the Hong Kong Open earlier.
In men’s doubles there are no withdrawals this time. Meanwhile in women’s doubles, Laksika Kanlaha/Phataimas Muenwong are the only pair to have withdrawn from the event. The Thai pair had reached the semi-finals in the Chinese Taipei Open.
The mixed doubles has suffered the biggest hit as over seven pairs have withdrawn from the event. Paris Olympics gold medallists, Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong will not be present as they were the home crowd favourites. Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino of Japan are also not featuring in China Open 2024.
