Indian women crash out of Thomas and Uber Cup 2020

The men's team also lost their last group tie.
Defending champions Japan defeated the Indian women's badminton team 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Thomas and Uber Cup 2020. This marked the exit of the Indian team from the tournament.
The tournament gave a chance to the Indian youngsters to showcase their talent. Saina Nehwal retired due to an injury after the first match, while PV Sindhu did not participate in Thomas and Uber Cup.
In the first match of the tie against Japan, Malvika Bansod put up a valiant effort against World No. 5 Akane Yamaguchi. However, she couldn't surpass the experience and quality of badminton displayed by the Japanese. Malvika eventually lost the match in straight games 12-21, 17-21 in 34 minutes, with India trailing 0-1.
The doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Rutuparna Panda went down to Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto in the next match. The Indian duo was totally outplayed by the higher-ranked women's doubles pair 8-21, 10-21 in 41 minutes.
In the third match of the tie, India faced another defeat to crash out of the tournament. Facing World No. 15, Sayaka Takahashi of Japan, Aditi Bhatt suffered a loss by 16-21, 7-21 in just 29 minutes.
Indian men suffer loss against China
After qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Thomas and Uber Cup for the first time since 2010, the Indian men suffered defeat in their last group tie against China. Only the duo of Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty were able to win their match.
India's formidable men's singles player Kidambi Srikanth began the tie for his country. However, he was completely outplayed by Shi Yu Qi, losing the match in straight games 12-21 16-21 in just 36 minutes.
Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty levelled the score 1-1 by winning their match. The duo defeated He Ji Ting and Zhou Hao Dong in straight games 21-14 21-14 in a 41-minute affair. This helped to boost the confidence of India after Kidambi's loss.
However, Sameer Verma lost the next men's singles match. It was a tight contest between him and Lu Guang Ju, but Verma lost by 21-14, 9-21, 22-24. The match lasted for 1 hour and 23 minutes, with India trailing 1-2 against China.
In the next men's doubles contest, M.R. Arjun and Dhruv Kapila faced defeat against Liu Cheng and Wang Yi Lyu. They gave a strong challenge to the Chinese pair, but eventually lost 24-26 19-21 in 52 minutes.
This was followed by the last men's singles match of Kiran George. He lost to Li Shi Feng 15-21 17-21 in the 43-minute affair, with India losing the tie by 1-4. India will play the quarterfinals against Denmark on Friday.
